#18 - 3 Years

So this blog has been dormant for quite some time and pretty much served the purpose I hoped it would. When I uprooted my life to come here to Las Vegas I needed something to help me keep track of my thoughts, keep me sane, and more importantly keep me busy. Today marks 3 years here in this great city and I feel like one last post is necessary.

I ventured here with no idea where my life was headed but with love in my heart and the strength to make things happen I had faith I would make something happen. I couldn't or wouldn't have done any of this without the love and support of S. We're still together, engaged, and the proud humans to 2 wonderful pups. Life is good.

I'm working hard at a job that I'll be at 3 years in November. It's been a challenge but I've made it work and I've grown from it. I'm thankful I took a shot and it paid off. I believed in myself and that confidence helped me land full-time employment in less than 3 months.

In closing I want to talk to anyone who is facing or considering change and afraid of what the future holds. Embrace it with a smile and believe that you have the strength to succeed. Fear can be our biggest enemy and though we shouldn't ignore it we shouldn't let it shut us down either.

We all deserve happiness in this life. For the moment I've found mine. Here's hoping you find yours.

If you'd like follow me on Twitter @1way2LasVegas where I'll remain active.

# 17 - Let's Get to Work!

When I first arrived in Las Vegas I sent my resume out to staging company. Being the slow season I didn't hear back from them until business picked back up. They contacted me on a Wednesday for a Sunday interview and I was working the following Friday. This is a freelance job which allows me lots of flexibility; so far I've booked jobs with them for 3 straight weeks.

It's exciting working in this environment again. Prior to my corporate job I worked for a small staging company and this freelance gig definitely makes me feel like I've traveled back in time. I'm also learning or re-learning certain skills that will round me out and make me even more marketable moving forward.

I've also been in for 2 interviews for a full-time job. A third interview is pending (hopefully sooner than later) and the outcome of that will determine if I continue down the freelance path. I see a benefit in both and would be happy doing either. The full-time gig would expose me to a whole new aspect of my field and that is scary and exciting.

Right now I'm just happy to be making money less than 2 months after I arrived in town. And at the rate I'm booking freelance jobs it doesn't look like I'll stop earning anytime soon.

#16 - Keep Moving Forward

On Wednesday I was cleared to volunteer at one of the local charities that I looked into dedicating some time to. I'll be helping people much less fortunate than myself and there are several different areas within the organization that I'll be able to contribute my time to. Hopefully I'll be able to get some time in next week.

In bigger news I had a phone interview for a job today. This was a company that I've applied to 3 or 4 times already since March so it was good to finally get a call. It's been ages since I've been in the job market and I'd never done a phone interview before so I was a bit nervous. I did well though and I'll be going to interview in person next week. It sounds like an interesting job and I wouldn't mind having it. I'm just not getting my hopes up too soon. I guess we'll see after next week.
